Breast augmentation has been one of the most common and popular cosmetic procedures for many years. As such, surgeons have had the knowledge and technology to improve breast augmentation surgery. Dr. Macias has developed several techniques throughout the years to help achieve your best and most natural results.

Listen to Dr. Luis Macias on The Ideal Factor podcast episode called “The Few, The Proud”…Proud Marine…Proud Plastics! talking about his approach and philosophy for plastic surgery

Dr. Luis Macias of Marina del Rey, CA, discusses his philosophy and approach to his 360-degree mommy makeover with Ideal Implant Founder and CEO, Dr. Robert S Hamas. “What is natural? Patients see that breasts are not huge, fat grafting of the buttocks is reasonable looking, things look like they could have been born with their results not like they went to see a plastic surgeon. When you start chasing better than normal, it starts looking odd…you need to consider what happens 15 years from now.”

Dr. Macias wanted to be a pilot…signed up for the Marines…attended UCLA…fell in love with medicine…from there surgery…and finally Plastics. Now that is a JOURNEY!

The Procedure

Your Santa Monica breast augmentation will be done under general anesthesia, which means you’ll be completely asleep and unable to feel any pain or discomfort. To begin, Dr. Macias will create the incision discussed during your initial consultation.

It will be located around the nipple, along the breast crease or within the armpit. Through that opening, he will create a pocket for the implant, typically above the pectoral muscle. He will then place the implant and close the incisions with sutures.

What is Breast Augmentation?

Our Marina del Rey breast augmentation, also known as augmentation mammoplasty, is designed to enhance the size, shape and projection of your chest with silicone or saline breast implants.

Recovery After Breast Augmentation

The recovery period for a breast augmentation is anywhere between three and four days. However, most of our patients take a week off of their main activities. The sutures are dissolvable, thus they do not need to be removed. Most women return to full exercise at four weeks. At four to six weeks you will be fully recovered and enjoying your beautiful and natural breast augmentation results.

Planning your Procedure

Dr. Macias understands each patient’s anatomy is different. Therefore, he will tailor your breast augmentation to your body. When planning your procedure, the following key decisions will be addressed during your consultation at our Marina del Rey area office with Dr. Macias:

  • Incision location. There are three incision options for breast implants: inframammary (along the breast crease), peri-areolar (around the areola) and trans-axillary (within the armpit). During your initial consultation, Dr. Macias will help you determine which incision option is right for you.
  • Implant profile. The profile of your implant determines the degree to which it projects and has an important impact on your results. We have three profile options available to our patients: low, moderate and high. High creates the most dramatic curves and projection, while low produces a more natural outcome. Moderate profile implants fall somewhere in the middle.
  • Implant size. When selecting implant size, Dr. Macias advises against choosing based on cup size. Instead, he will help you select the best implant size for you based on the proportions of your body. For example, a taller woman with a wide chest may require a larger implant, while a woman with a smaller frame can achieve her ideal look with a smaller one.
  • Implant placement. In order to achieve your most natural results, Dr. Macias prefers to perform breast augmentation in the sub fascial plane (above the muscle) for most of our Redondo Beach patients. As he often says, “Natural anatomy does not have breast tissue under the muscle, so why place an implant under the muscle?”
  • Implant type. There are three types of breast implants: saline, silicone, and silicone gel. The right one for you will depend upon your unique anatomy, desired results and budget.
  • Fat transfer. Santa Monica women who want a moderate increase in breast size may be considered candidates for a fat transfer. With this procedure, Dr. Macias will take fat from another area of your body – such as the back, buttocks or thighs – and transfer it to the breasts.

Visualize Your Results

The prospect of undergoing breast augmentation can be scary because you can’t be entirely certain about the end-results. Most people have a nagging fear that the final results won’t match their expectations. Some have trouble visualizing the cosmetic differences between different CCs or implant styles. At Aesthetic MdR, we used cutting-edge simulation technologies to put those concerns to rest.

Vectra 3D is a unique simulation technology that shows you the final results of your breast augmentation during the consultation. The Vectra 3D cameras take images of your treatment areas from multiple angles, process them through a software, and produce accurate images of the final results. You can even tweak the results to “try on” different sizes and styles of implants until you find one that makes you truly happy!

Internal bra technique

The internal bra technique is designed to sustain the results from a breast augmentation procedure by providing a supportive scaffold that integrates naturally into your tissues. Some of the benefits that come with the internal bra technique in combination with breast augmentation include:

  • Prevent shifting of the breast implants
  • Prevention of the “double bubble” where the implant drops out of place causing a double breast crease
  • Keeps your breasts higher on your chest for longer
  • Holds the desired shape of the augmented breasts for longer

Dr. Macias now offers the internal bra technique in combination with breast augmentation in Santa Monica.

FAQ Breast Augmentation

How much will a breast augmentation cost?

Not every procedure is the same. There are a few factors that contribute to the overall cost of a breast augmentation such as how long the procedure might take and surgeon fees. Set up your breast augmentation in Marina del Rey with Dr. Macias to get the exact cost for your procedure.

Will I need to replace my breast implants in the future?

It depends. Some implants will last a lifetime, while others may need to be replaced within ten to twenty years. At our practice, the most common reason women cite for replacing their implants is to change their size.

Will implants “lift” my breasts?

If you have significant sagging, breast implants may not correct the issue. In these cases, you may require a breast lift to tighten and elevate the drooping tissue, as well as implants to improve size and shape.
