What is a Septoplasty?
Septoplasty is a surgery designed to correct a deviated septum. A deviated septum occurs when the bone and cartilage that divide your nostrils are crooked or displaced. During surgery, Dr. Macias will straighten the septum and improve your breathing.
What are the Signs of a Deviated Septum?
A deviated septum may be present at birth or develop due to an injury or the normal aging process. Many patients are unaware that their breathing challenges may be attributed to a deviated septum. Here are a few of the telltale signs and symptoms:
- Difficulty breathing through one or both nostrils due to an obstruction
- Frequent nosebleeds due to nasal dryness
- Noisy breathing
- A preference for sleeping on a certain side to optimize breathing
