Liposuction is one of the most popular procedures in plastic surgery. We understand that living a healthy lifestyle is part of feeling and looking great. However, stubborn fat can be an issue for some patients.

What is Liposuction?

Our Marina del Rey Liposuction treatment is designed to slim specific “problem areas” throughout the body. It breaks up and removes excess fat deposits beneath the surface of your skin, to create a smooth and more proportionate body contour.

Why Choose Dr. Macias?

Dr. Luis Macias is an internationally renowned, highly trained, double board-certified plastic surgeon located in the Redondo Beach area who is best known for his natural results. He customizes his liposuction approach for each patient, and focuses on balancing their proportions, sculpting a more attractive shape, and removing stubborn pockets of fat that are not responsive to diet and exercise.

The Procedure

Your Marina del Rey liposuction procedure may be done under general or local anesthesia, depending on your needs. To begin, Dr. Macias will create discreet incisions in the area of the unwanted fat. He will insert a cannula (a thin, hollow tube) through those openings, gently moving it back and forth to break up unwanted fat. He will then suction the excess volume using a surgical vacuum.

The liposuction recovery period varies dramatically for patients depending on the extent of the procedure. Patients may experience some swelling, bruising and soreness for approximately a week post-surgery. Compression garments may be worn for two to three weeks after the procedure.

Am I a Candidate?

The ideal liposuction candidate is a Manhattan Beach man or woman who:

  • Is close to their ideal body weight
  • Has unsuccessfully tried to address “problem areas” with diet and exercise
  • Wants to remove small, localized deposits of unwanted fat
  • Is in good general health and without serious illnesses

FAQ Liposuction

Is liposuction safe?

Liposuction is a very safe procedure. However, there are some risks to be aware of, including a poor reaction to anesthesia, infection, sensation changes, damage to nerves and blood vessels, and an undesirable cosmetic outcome that requires a revision. You are less likely to experience these complications if you choose an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon for your procedure.

I am overweight. Can I have liposuction?

If you are overweight, Dr. Macias recommends losing weight with a diet and exercise plan first. If stubborn pockets of fat persist despite weight loss, then you may be considered a candidate for liposuction.

How long is the surgery?

Liposuction typically takes between one and two hours to complete.

When will I see my results?

Your results will be considered final within one year. However, you will notice an improvement as soon as your swelling begins to subside.
