Many men are dissatisfied with ears that are large and prominent. When this occurs, otoplasty can improve the size, shape and/or position of the ears.

What is ear surgery?

Also known as otoplasty, ear surgery is a procedure that is designed to create more attractive and discreet ears. A very common procedure among our male patients, otoplasty can:

  • Reposition ears that protrude too far from the head
  • Resize large, prominent ears
  • Restore balance to asymmetrical ears

The procedure

Otoplasty is an in-office procedure that is done under local anesthesia. The incisions are very small and located on the back of the ear and/or hidden within its natural folds. Through those tiny openings, Dr. Macias can:

  • Trim away excess cartilage
  • Pin back protruding ears
  • Shape a more natural and attractive appearance

To complete the procedure, Dr. Macias will close the incisions and wrap your head with cotton bandages. You will be able to return home the very same day.

Recovery

Otoplasty is associated with a relatively straightforward recovery. Your bandages will remain in place for one week. During this time, you may notice bruising, swelling and mild pain, though these effects will dissipate soon.

In the meantime, you will need to avoid anything that could affect the ears before they have healed, which includes sleeping on your side, washing your hair with shampoo, and exposing the area to extreme hot or cold temperatures.
