Many men struggle with enlarged male breasts, which is a distressing condition also known as gynecomastia. Fortunately, a breast reduction can very successfully address the excess volume and restore a firm and masculine chest.

What is a male breast reduction?

Gynecomastia reduction is a surgical procedure which can be performed under general or local anesthesia. Overgrowth of male breast tissue is a stubborn area that cannot be addressed with weight loss. With a simple procedure, Dr. Macias can:

  • Remove excess breast tissue
  • Contour a more masculine chest
  • Improve chest symmetry

Understanding gynecomastia

Gynecomastia is the growth of breast tissue in men which causes a fullness behind the nipple area. Gynecomastia reduction is a common procedure that has quickly gained popularity for men of all ages. Patients are often dissatisfied with the aesthetic appearance of their chest or express a lack of confidence due their “man boobs”.

The procedure

Your male breast reduction can be done under general anesthesia or IV sedation, depending on the procedures performed. There are two main techniques used during gynecomastia surgery, and they may be blended when necessary:

Liposuction

Liposuction is ideal if your breasts are mainly composed of fatty tissue. In this case, Dr. Macias will create small incisions in your chest. Through those openings, he will move a small, hollow tube (cannula) back and forth to break up and suction out the unwanted fat.

Excision

If glandular development is the cause of your large breasts or you have excess skin that must be addressed, excision may be necessary. This approach involves creating incisions around the areola and/or within the natural creases of your chest. Through those openings, Dr. Macias will excise the unwanted tissue, trim away excess skin and reposition the nipple.
